Sloat Garden Center
The garden center chain claims to have the most California Certified Nursery Professionals in Northern California,making it one of the premier garden centers in North America, offering gardening products, broad plant selection, and knowledgeable customer service and consultation. The first garden center in the chain was opened back in 1958 as part of G.E.T. Department Store. The first store was located at the corner of 34th Avenue and Sloat Boulevard in San Francisco. The stores have always been independently owned. The garden center is in fact the Bay Area’s largest independent nursery, and has been expanding to this status ever since Sloat made the decision to focus on the highest quality plant materials and garden products back in 1993. Over the years, they have also become the largest independent pottery importer in the U.S., with strong ties to many other independent garden chains that purchase their pottery through Sloat.
